So, I can't cook. I've made many attempts but with varying degrees of success but mostly non-success. Sadly, my husband and I have relied on the kindness of strangers, my mom, and the multitude of super fantastic restaurants we're lucky to live near to sustain us. We live in Alhambra, CA. The food is here is AMAZING and amazingly cheap.
The eating part, I'm no amateur. That's right folks, I've gone pro. I love food. I love to be around food and reading about it. I actually have a shelf full of cook books. I pour over the recipes and I can imagine what it would taste like in my mind's eye...or mouth. The only mail I look forward to are my food magazines. But I'm no food snob either. I'm a devotee of King Taco and the Peruvian dives as much as I love the Michelin starred places. Heck, I had the In-N-Out truck cater the after party of my wedding.
However, now that I have a 20 month old daughter, I feel so sorry that she doesn't have a parent who knows how to cook. Now that she's starting to eat more foods, I really need to step it up. The steamed veggies and rice are only going to keep her happy for so long. I have resolved to learn to cook at least one new thing every week for my family. It's important to me that I keep my husband healthy and instill healthy habits in my baby.
Parenthood is crazy stuff but it pushes you to be a better person and hopefully in my case, a better cook too.
